Prominent Northern elders statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai has tipped the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu for unassailable victory in poll fixed for 25th of this month.
Yakassai who spoke exclusively over the weekend however feared political manipulation and rigging because as he said some top brass politicians in the APC and in the opposition are uncomfortable with the impending victory.
” win the election, may resort to malpractices, which may include rigging. That is why I made the warning just to alert the nation to this possibility that everybody should get prepared to prevent anybody thinking of taking over power through rigging or military coup. It is just a note of warning to the nation or a wake-up call”
On who is likely to run away with the bulk of Northern votes, the elder statesman disagreed with the position of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will win with 70% of Northern votes. According to him, he foresees a situation where the votes are share equally between Tinubu and Abubakar Atiku.
“I don’t see any candidate taking maybe 70 per cent of the total northern votes in this election. I know many of the votes will be shared and at worst equally between the two candidates”
He however thinks that the majority will for the APC candidate because he has campaigned more vigorously than the others.
“The candidates coming from the North, in my opinion, are rarely going to be on the ballot. They will split the vote in the North and chances are that the chunk of votes Tinubu will get from the voters in the North will be higher than those of the other strong three candidates. The three people being mentioned are very strong contenders. The possibility is that the votes in the North will be split into so many places. If that happens, the likelihood is that the chunk of votes will go to Tinubu compared to any one of them. He is likely to get more votes than any of them. Apart from that, I can see Tinubu holding rallies all over the country. I don’t see any of the people you mentioned making the same efforts he is making”
