Chelsea fans have demanded a ‘forensic investigation’ into their side’s ’embarrassing’ 4-1 loss to Brighton, with some claiming that despite ‘stealing’ their manager and staff the Blues were ‘outplayed’ by the home side.
Graham Potter’s return to the Amex Stadium was a shocker worthy of Halloween, after the London side conceded a trio of goals before halftime, with Leandro Trossard striking within the first five minutes, thanks to a poor pass from Thiago Silva.
Chelsea conceded several poor errors throughout the match, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek sending the ball into his own net, before Trevoh Chalobah did the same soon after, sliding a cross around goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, that left Potter in disbelief on the sidelines.
Kai Havertz responded after the break for the visitors, but it was Brighton who had the last laugh, with Pascal Gross scoring in injury time to give the London club a difficult journey home after what potter described as a ‘painful’ performance.
But many fans have taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the defeat, with some reflecting in disbelief that their side were still well-beaten by Brighton despite having taken their manager and the majority of their coaching staff earlier this season.
One fan wrote, ‘Stole their manager, stole their staff but still got battered by them. We are a special football club.’ Another said: ‘Most embarrassing performance since I started Supporting Chelsea.’
One fan even went as far as requesting a ‘forensic investigation’ into the loss: ‘Totally unacceptable and shameful performance. Even by Chelsea’s giddy history of unpredictability, how they went from playing irresistible football against Salzburg midweek to looking like a disjointed rabble against Brighton needs a forensic investigation.
