Ekiti Speaker Appeals to Youths Over #EndSARS Protest, Warns Against Consuming Poisonous Food

The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has appealed to the Nigerian youths, Ekiti chapter in particular, to give peace a chance on their call for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Police.

Making the call in a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, the Speaker warned against the consumption of food items not fit for human consumption, which were carted away from the Federal Government Silos in Ado Ekiti yesterday.

He observed that the protesting youths originally had good intentions when the #EndSARS protest started before the struggle was hijacked by some alleged hoodlums.

Afuye who, identified with the youths on their demands, said “there is nothing wrong in peaceful protests but allowing it to degenerate into violence is not good for the peace of our society.”

He enjoined our youths to join hands with the Governor in his proactive steps to prevent the escalation of the protest in our dear state. “If not for the mature and swift manner Governor Kayode Fayemi responded to the youths protest, Ekiti wouldn’t have been witnessing the relative peace in the State today.”

Afuye who lauded the Governor’s inauguration of a panel of enquiry into police brutality, said “considering the fact that members of the panel are selected from different sectors in the State, I have no doubts that justice will be served at the end of the exercise because they are all men and women of proven integrity”

He therefore enjoined Ekiti people to maintain peace and order, advising parents to tell their wards not to join those who are vandalizing properties in the State and even beyond.
