Ogundipe defended himself orally, in writing before he was sacked by Council – Babalakin

The last may not have been heard over the crisis rocking the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

This is as the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Olawale Babalakin has come out to say the embattled ex-VC, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe defended himself both orally and in writing.

This is coming on the heels of contrary information that he was not given fair hearing before arriving at the condition.

The Pro-Chancellor gave this hint while speaking on salient issues concerning developments at the citadel of learning on Arise TV.

Babalakin noted that Ogundipe defended himself orally and in writing before he was sacked by Council.

His words: “Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the former Vice-Chancellor of the institution was given fare hearing before he was removed due to gross misappropriation of funds and reckless looting of resources.”
According to him, Ogundipe wrote his defense, and stood in the council for one hour to defend himself, so anyone saying he was not given fair hearing does not know the facts and such a claim is a false narrative.

Mr. Babalakin hinted that the removal of Ogundipe is backed by the University Miscellaneous Provisions Act of 2009 which says in 3:8 ’’that the Vice Chancellor may be removed from office by the governing council on grounds of gross misconduct or inability to discharge his function from his office as a result of deformity to his body or mind at the initiative of council, senate or congregation after the process” and the act of 2003 which vest the power of the removal of the VC on the President/Visitor no longer applies.

He charged those peddling falsehood to desist from it, saying their unverified comments are capable of misleading the unsuspecting general public.
