UN DEP SEC GEN, MOHAMMED IN MAIDUGURI TO ASSESS HUMANITARIAN SITUATION, IMPACT OF COVID -19 PANDEMIC

The United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed led other humanitarian actors on Tuesday morning to Maiduguri,  the Borno State capital.
The UN flight landed safely amidst tight security at the Maiduguri International Airport about 10:45am, and were received by the state Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Both leaders went into close door meeting at the VIP Lounge of the Airport, before boarding another UN Helicopter (GHS- D- HAFR) to Banki, a border town with Cameroun with thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are in dire need of supports.
Shortly after the close door meeting there was no official press statement on UN mission, our Correspondent gathered that the UN leader was in the state to assess the general humanitarian crisis with a view to draw more support to the North East sub region, and also look at the impact of Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
It is expected that a press conference will be conducted today in Maiduguri after the Banki trip.
