YOBE RELEASES N75 MILLION TO EMPOWER WOMEN DISPLACED BY INSURGENTS

Yobe State Government has released the sum of N75 million to be distributed for 1500 women who were hitherto displaced from their homes by various Boko Haram attacks in the state.

Each of the beneficiaries are to recieve N50,000 as financial backing without collateral to start up a micro business or expand the existing ones.

This was disclosed to our Correspondent on Wednesday by the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje in an interview in Damaturu, the state capital.

Goje said the gesture is the latest Social Intervention Programme (SIP) initiated by Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration designed to contribute to the economic growth and poverty alleviation amongst vulnerable groups in the state.

He explained that the beneficiaries are mostly Internally Displaced Women from Gujba town and other communities of Buni- Yadi that were attacked by insurgents recently.

According to him the distribution which would be conducted by YOSEMA officials is to spur micro economic growth and stability, especially when the nation’s economy is becoming fragile due to financial burden ensuring from the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, in which, women are mostly at the recieving end.

His words: “Yobe State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni has released the sum of N75 million to be distributed for 1500 women who were hitherto displaced from their homes by various Boko Haram attacks in the state.

“Each of the beneficiaries are to recieve N50,000 as financial backing without collateral to start up a micro business or expand the existing ones.

“This gesture is the latest Social Intervention Programme (SIP) initiated by Governor Hon Buni’s administration designed to contribute to the economic growth and poverty alleviation amongst vulnerable groups in the state”. Goje stated.

Dr. Goje however appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the funds in order to improve their livelihood.  End
