Manchester United legend Paul Scholes heaped praise on Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey after the Ghanian’s performance in a 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday. The former Atletico Madrid star was instrumental in the Gunners’ first win away at a top-six rival in the last five years, putting in a commanding display in Arsenal’s midfield. Partey was up against the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes but the Ghanian dominated the middle of the park as Arsenal held out for an important win. Many have mistakenly labelled Partey as a ‘destroyer’ but the 27-year-old showed his ability on the ball as he broke through United’s midfield on countless occasions, proving his attacking prowess.
Scholes was certainly impressed with Partey’s display, claiming ‘you don’t see many’ players like the Ghanian these days.
He’s an all-round midfielder,’ Scholes told Premier League Productions. ‘You don’t see many players like that these days. Midfielders are attacking midfielders or holding midfielders but a midfield players’s job is to do everything, ‘You have to contribute with everything and today he did a brilliant job in all departments.’Not done, another Red Devils legend,Roy Keane has heaped praise on Arsenal new boy Thomas Partey, likening the midfielder to club legend Patrick Vieira after his performance in the Gunners’ 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Partey, who signed from Atletico Madrid for £45m on deadline day, put in a dominant and dynamic display in midfield and Keane was suitably impressed with what he saw.
‘Outstanding,’ Keane replied when asked about the Ghanaian on Sky Sports. ‘He came from a big club, he’s played in big competitions. The more I look at him, the more I wish he was in United’s midfield.
‘Big, strong, aggressive. I think this kid has a chance to match what Patrick used to do. And he likes to pass it forward, he looks comfortable on the ball. Composure, good first touch.
Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp was in agreement.
He said: ‘When I look at Partey he is like a throwback to what I think of as a midfield player. I don’t look at him as a No 6, 8, defensive midfield player I just think of him as a very good midfield player who can do everything.
‘I think about the Vieira’s, the Petits. He did everything I want to see.’
Arsenal victory sees them move up to ninth but just four points separates them from leaders Liverpool.
