The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision, foresight and ability to lead by example. I have grown to understand that leadership and learning are indispensable to each other and that the good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better.
It also occurred to be that men make history and not the other way around. It is most certain that in periods where there is no leadership, society and its components stand still. This clearly shows that progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders decide to seize the opportunity to change things for the better.
This is why when Alhaji Amadu Haruna Zago decided to vie for the chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) political party, I felt that I owe it a duty to the good members of APC in Kano state to let them know that they should consider themselves luckier than others because Alhaji Amadu haruna Zago is aspiring.
Alhaji Amadu Haruna Zago’s political achievement has been so pronounced that the history of Kano politics wouldn’t ever be complete without mentioning the political development brought about to the state by Alhaji Amadu.
Danzago, as he is fondly referred in the political sector, was born in Kano 71 years ago. With over 12 successful business records, Danzago has been a Chairman to various business firms within and outside the shores of Nigeria.
However, he is what the present political trend will refer to as a giant political gladiator whose quest for equality and equity has accorded him the ability to be seen and regarded as a born leader.
As far back as 1979, Danzago was National Party of Nigeria’s (NPN) Youth leader in Dambatta local government area and in 1983 he aspired for the position of member of the House of assembly representing Dambatta East constituency. He was also a Member of the National Delegates under National Republican Convention (NRC) and he was the chairman of Kano North’s NRC election committee in 1992. He also held the post of Chairman of the Finance committee of Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) in 1996.
Danzago’s political good will didn’t stop there as in 1996 he moved to become a member of DPN’s elder’s committee. He held the position of chairman election committee for senate and National House of representative United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1997. He was the state treasurer of All People’s Party (APP) in 1998 and also the party’s deputy chairman in 2000. In 2002 Danzago was the Special Assistant to the ANPP national chairman on security matters, and he was also the chairman ANPP gubernatorial election committee of ANPP and the party succeeded in winning the election in 2003.
From 2003 to 3005 he held the position of Special Adviser to the state governor on political matters. However with the emergence of the Buhari Campaign Organization, Danzago was the state chairman of the Organization in 2007 and in 2009 he became the North West vice Chairman of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He later became the party’s state caretaker chairman in 2010 and he was elected as the state CPC chairman in 2010, he was a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) elders committee in 2014 as well as the Chairman disciplinary committee of APC in 2015.
Similarly, his political horizons continue to expand as he held the post of Special Adviser on Food Security to Kano state governor from 2015 to 2019. He was also a member in the 2019 presidential campaign council election team in 2019 and also a member contact and mobilization committee for the APC presidential campaign in 2019. He was a member of the Buhari campaign committee North West zone, in 2019 he was a special adviser to Kano state governor on food security till date.
He was a member of the reconciliation committee and in 2020 he became the APC chairman disciplinary committee a position he is holding till date.
A man with all these starling records of absolute good performance in his strive and accomplishment as a businessman and a politician, is indeed a blessing for any outlet to have and I am sure APC is proud to have someone like this as its member.
Alhaji Amadu Haruna Zago is a man I believe that will no doubt try to restore party supremacy through ensuring absolute power of the party over any persons, individual or group of persons within the party’s perimeter. He will also maintain party discipline and peaceful co-existence as well as to promote equality, justice and freedom for all party members for the party to prosper beyond expectations.
The Danzago I know ill ensure the establishment of party committees that will ensure inclusiveness of that that matters in all party affairs for effective translation of party objectives to the grassroots.
Alhaji Amadu Haruna Zago has been of the view that there is a need for every member of a political party to be involve of party annual performance review and in view of this believe of Alhaji Zago, he had proposed APC state annual summit through which the party’s progress will be assessed and reviewed by party executives at all levels as well as to enhance a good synergy between state actors and local government actors in the party.
Indeed, Kano APC has never had such a personality that has fulfilled all the requirements needed as well as being loved and adored by the majority of members of the party as Alhaji Danzago. Indeed the party’s future is bright in the state especially when people like Amadu Zago are running its affairs.
Right now the Nigerian political base is no doubt rooted in Kano politics and people are very concerned about the impact of what Kano does on issues as its affects all the nation. The good news here is that Kano APC has decided and I am optimistic that the party wouldn’t want to lose the opportunity of being led by such a talented and resourceful individual as Danzago.
As a concerned party member, I want to state here that if we fail to reason with the wise, we will surely live the rest of our lives regretting. Let us wish others what we wish for ourselves and support Alhaji Amadu Haruna Zago as Kano State APC Chairman.
